The 1950's, 2 storey reverse level property that originally stood on this sloping site within the Conservation Area of Fowey did very little to enhance the area or indeed take advantage of the spectacular river and coastal views available.

Our clients brief was therefore quite straightforward - demolish the existing property and replace it with a contemporary dwelling that maximised the sites potential and would offer a more positive contribution to the townscape.

Through careful negotiations with the Conservation and Planning Officers the resultant property sits within the same overall footprint of the original property, with the same overall height and massing, but despite its contemporary overtone picks up on a number of architectural forms and massing that define its context and have ultimately allowed the dwelling to merge back into the Fowey townscape.

Accessed from a modest roadside elevation, three floors of accommodation open up to the rear allowing all principle living and bed rooms to benefit from views of the river with a large open plan living, dining and kitchen space at lower ground floor level having direct access to the re-landscaped gardens. Remaining first and second floor accommodation has direct access to a choice of 5 balconies that allow the sun to be followed throughout the day and offer a variety of views up and downstream. Intermediate floors to the road elevation access service accommodation, all of which is linked by a feature timber and glass central staircase.

The property was completed in 2011 by Dale Isbell Construction.
